I got hooked on Triathlon 11 years ago when I did my first sprint tri. That race isn’t around anymore thanks to Hurricane Katrina-but I still am! In those first 2-3 years,I raced as an Athena (the 150lbs and over category)since I was coming off of 10 years of relative inactivity, smoking cigarettes and living the late-night-up-to-no-good scene. It took a while to get under 150lbs-lots of hard work, going to bed early, and surrounding myself with great,HEALTHY people, but once that happened,my engine was started and it seemed like I woke up one day and I was hovering at about 130 lbs and a size 4.All the while, through the years,I saw my speed increase and began winning all the local races leading up to qualifying for Kona and Clearwater in 2007.I walked away from Clearwater (the 2007 Ironman 70.3 World Championship)as the Top Amateur, and determined it was time to step it up and race with the pros. So from 2008-2011,I raced as a Pro and as a member of the ZOOT ULTRA TRIATHLON TEAM. Today, I am blessed to still be on the team racing as an amateur. In 2002 when I did that first race-a sprint-I never imagined I would have a career like this!It is truly a dream come true!

YOU CAN CHANGE your LIFE!

When I began to race in 2002, I was a size 10-12 and around 160 lbs - and this was after a year of spinning and running and swimming to prepare. For the first two years I raced as an ATHENA (150lbs+)until my body began to change and the weight came off. It took a while, but it finally happened. Today, I am a healthy, happy size 4 (a 6 at Christmas!), 30 lbs lighter and feel better than ever. The following pictures are a look into what I looked like in 2003....hard to believe

MY ATHENA DAYS! from 2003

MY ATHENA DAYS! from 2003
This is what I looked like in my 2nd year of racing....pretty amazing how I have changed. It shows that it takes years to see the difference, but if you stick with it and are consistant, it can happen.

Why do you do Triathlon? 10 years ago it started as a means to lose weight and get in shape, but it took on a life of itself. I race triathlon now because I can, because this sport changed my life, because I'm good at it, because it keeps me focused on not so Big stuff, because it's fun, because win or lose I come out on top and that feels really good to me.

What are your top 5 race results? I have won the Gulf Coast Triathlon 1/2 Ironman the past 3 years - '09, '10, '11. / In '08 I was 2nd in Cancun 70.3. I have some long winning streaks in local Louisiana sprints.

What’s your favorite race and why? it's a tie. Gulf Coast 1/2 Ironman in Panama City Beach - Hard HOT Flat & Fast, and the Buffalo Springs Lake Triathlon 70.3 because it's the best race in the middle of nowhere where people go to race hard and get b-slapped by the elements. every year is a new adventure.

What’s your favorite workout? a long bike/run brick in spring in Red Bluff, Mississippi

What is your favorite pre-race meal? spaghetti and an ice cream sandwich

How do you celebrate after a big race? beer and beach (if there is one)

Whats was the last song you listened to? C'mon by Fun

Whats a hobbie of yours besides triathlon? I paint on canvas and love to work in the garden growing vegetables

What is favorite Zoot product? oh boy, must I pick one? 4"tri shorts, compression recovery tights, compression recovery socks, icefill sleeves

What is your ultimate triathlon goal? ultimate goal, to keep racing long into my old age. this year, to get back to Kona and Vegas.
